Thankyou from the Adventurers
Robin would like to thank:
Doris Ho and the team from the Hong Kong Jockey
Club for understanding immediately what the idea
was all about, and producing not only fantastic
week for us in Hong Kong, but also a three month
programme of inspiration based on our theme.
Dr Tan Chu Chui and the team from the Singapore
International Foundation for their great hospitality,
and for their enthusiasm in producing a great
programme whist we are there-and an especial thanks
to Dawn Wee for her kindness and for the introductions
that led eventually to a great programme.
To Henk Kiks, Addie Somerton and Thom Van Blaircom
for battling through some major difficulties to
produce the Bangkok sector-thanks for your enthusiasm
and drive.
To the South African team, headed by Linda and
Aldo Girola, and to their colleagues in the Rotary
Division of South Africa for putting it all together
so well, and a special thanks to Ad Keukelaar
and his Harley Davidson team.
To Darren and Mary Munley for their wonderful
work in setting up The Red Sea sector and to Darren
and Jim for teaching the team to scuba dive, especially
Mike, who with no legs provided quite a challenge.
To the great Irish team who played a blinder
and produced a very exciting week for us, and
to Darlene McCormack and the team from Life Communications,
for their Northern Ireland race around the Safeway
stores there.
There are so many others-Gordon Beattie of Beattie
Media, and his offices in Dublin Scotland and
London, who have helped us so much-Mike Thomson,
who heard about our adventure and volunteered
to be our bookkeeper. Sir Tom Farmer whose inspiration
has always been a beacon to me.
But most of all, to my team-to Miles Mike and
Caroline for taking on my impossible dream, to
Stuart Nussey for his calmness when all around
are awry, and to my dedicated Project Director,
Mum to the group, Mary Donaldson, who kept all
our feet on the ground and our eyes in the air.
I call the project an adventure in exploring
the impossible. That is exactly what it turned
out to be. Sometimes the impossible is no more
than a state of mind.
Mary would like to thank:
Around the World in 80 Ways
is not the work of one person. Many people have
been of great help and I want to express sincere
gratitude to them.
What is being achieved would not be possible
without the enthusiastic co-operation and skilled
work of the Project Managers and their teams worldwide.
Their suggestions too have been invaluable.
To the thousands of volunteers our 'Angels' I
am indebted for the work you have done and for
the support you are giving to the Around the World
in 80 Ways Adventure. We may never meet but be
assured that your contribution has been essential
in enabling this adventure to happen. You are
an inspiration to me.
To Miles, your inspiration words of wisdom have
kept me going when it got tough. I can also see
how you gently hold Ava a Jack and Jill baby.
You are not able to see the smile on Ava's mum's
face in a photo I have, I can and it is beautiful.
Caroline you have inspired me by your Can Do philosophy
and the way you fearlessly go running, you are
a worthy Princess and a very special lady. To
Mike whose courage in undertaking several extra
operations to enabled you to take part in the
adventure has not only been an inspiration but
has shown me that determination and will can move
mountains. Thank you for being such a special
friend. It is a privilege to be called 'mum' by
you guys!!
To Jon your support is invaluable to me personally
and I applaud the way in which you are managing
the adventure on a day to day basis. Aoife who
has grabbed the adventure with both hands and
is so happy just to be able to be there.
Stuart where would I be without your down to
earth cheerfulness, your off the wall humour and
sense of knowing what is right for the adventure.
Mike our Treasurer, you have perhaps the hardest
task of all, keeping us all in line and ensuring
our expenses are in on time, what a hard life
we are giving you. And Mike, our cameraman who
despite personal upsets is determined to stay
part of the adventure.
Coman, Shakira, Yvonne, Carole, Kath, David,
Malcolm, Tom, BB, George, EmcT, SBM, KC, Angel
and especially SNN - thanks guys!!
To Claire-Louise and Jamie you have both enriched
my life beyond measure and to Patricia-Mary I
thank you for teaching me that nothing is impossible
and for showing me how to stargaze.
And Robin - Adventure Leader, Modern Day Phileas
Fogg you may be but to Ashley and Elizabeth you
are dad, to Rory, Chloe, Cody and Jack you are
Grandad, to Claire-Louise and Jamie a very special
friend and to me ' My Fella' and we all love you
and are so proud of what is being achieved with
your idea. Thank you for believing I could 'fly'
and for staying at my side when I do.
Caroline would like to thank
the following people for being absolutely fantastic:
Pat McCann and Stephen Johnston of the Jury's
Doyle group for their sponsored accommodation
in London and Galway.
Yvonne Burke and Coman Kenny of The Aisling Foundation
for all their incredible hard work. Without both
of you, so much of this would not have been possible.
You have been friends, fantastic colleagues and
the best all rounders. Thank you so very very
much!!! Loving Your Work !!!!
Shakira Nelis and Rory Coveney of zero|one. As
usual you have both surpassed yourselves. Thank
you both for all your advice, patience and constant
fabulous work. Shakira, from all the team, thank
you so much for all the endless hours of work
you have and continue to do for us - you are the
best!
Kathleen McLoughlin. Lady, you rock! Thanks for
organising the Tipper truck to Roscommon and for
all your support and encouragement - and of course
the food. Thanks for being probably one of the
most positive people I know.
John O'Loughlin and Bill Stevens of Smurfit corrugated
cases. Smurfit have been such wonderful sponsors
but John and Bill you have been both great fun
and totally part of the Irish adventure. Thank
you so very much for the hard work you nave put
into The Cardboard boat - let hope that it doesn't
rain on Friday the 13th. From all the team, you
have bee truly great and everything you have done
fro us is so much appreciated.
The Carlow Crew - especially Collette Morrissey
and Mary and Bosco O'Connell. You are all fantastic,
brilliant and mad. You have MADE the Irish leg
of Around the World in 80 Ways. I am incredibly
proud to be associated with you all and dying
to come to Carlow
Jonathan Irwin. Utter legend and constant inspiration!
What more can I say, but that one of the best
parts of Around the World in 80 ways was meeting
you and being part, in a small way of the Jack
and Jill Foundation.
The Jack and Jill Foundation - the national wide
team - special thanks to Mary Joe and Cathy Brady.
Thank you so much for embracing 80 ways so wonderfully.
You have been so good and so encouraging to us
all. Look forward to meeting you on route for
a knees up!
Catherine and Brian Campbell. Thank you so much
for the accommodation in Roscommon and the assistance
with the Garda car. Many thanks to your colleagues
in Roscommon Garda Station in particular to Chief
Superintendent Fennel for all his efforts.
The Fire Brigade unit in Galway - in particular
- many thanks to acting chief fire officer Chris
McMullen. Your help is so much appreciated.
Mayor Dermot Lacey - for the use of the Mayor's
car and for meeting us on our trip down the Liffey
in the cardboard boat.
Niamh Sheeran and Evelyn Norton of Niamh Sheeran
and Associates. Sterling work from the dynamic
duo for the gala dinner on Saturday 14th in Dublin
Castle. Never have I seen such professionalism
and style. You are incredible.
Victoria Wainwright - Illustrator. Thank you
for the wonderful postcard. It will always be
such a great memory of the maddest adventure yet!
Dermot O'Loughlin of Smurfit. For the wonderful
postcards, for doing everything so quickly and
professionally. They look fantastic.
Neil McGouran of Penta! Thank you for all your
help with the printing of the t-shirts. They look
fantastic and will be worn with pride.
Neeraj Pathania - my Indian Friend. Thank you
as always for being my Guardian Angel. I look
forward to returning to India to share Tapioca
chips and Kingfisher beer. You have and always
will be my best travelling partner.
To all my friends - you know who you are! For
putting up with all the highs and the lows. For
always being so supportive and kind. For everything
you have done fro me over the past few years as
I constantly bore and amaze you with my madness.
You are never ever forgotten in all this because
without all of the things you do and say to encourage
and support me I would not be here.
Derek O'Sullivan of Equinox Leisure in Sandymount!
Well, the bet is on!! You have to be fit when
I get back or you will be put into a cage of ducks.
Derek, thanks for the work you have done with
me to make me fit enough to take this on. You
have been one of the most patient people I know
and have listened to all my trials and tribulations
along the way! But maybe that is because you are
lazy!!!
Mum, Dad, Hilary and Martin - you know what I
think of you all and you know that you mean the
world to me. Thanks for always making me believe
I can do what I want - all I have to do- is want
it hard enough!!
Ferg Doyle - aka - The Saint! What is there to
say except that I will miss you because you are
my best friend, my shoulder to cry on, the nutter
I laugh with and the idiot that puts up with me.
Thanks for being big enough to let me go again.
Thanks for everything babe! You are, and always
will be THE BEST!! xxx
